Here’s how an in-office session works: your gums and lips are carefully protected, a professional-strength whitening gel is applied to your teeth, and a special light activates it. The gel is refreshed over several short cycles, and in about 60–90 minutes total, teeth typically brighten by several shades — in a single appointment.

Choose in-office when:

• You have an event coming — wedding, reunion, photos, interview — and want results now
• You want the strongest supervised treatment with everything handled for you
• You’d rather not manage trays and gels at home

Trade-offs: it’s the higher-cost option per session, and some patients experience temporary sensitivity for a day or two afterward — manageable, and your dental team preps you for it.

Take-home trays: professional results, on your schedule

Custom take-home whitening starts with impressions or scans of your teeth, from which we make thin, precisely fitted trays. You wear them with professional-grade gel — typically for 30–60 minutes a day or overnight, depending on the formula — for one to two weeks.

Choose take-home when:

• You prefer gradual brightening you control
• Your teeth lean sensitive — lower-strength gels over more days are often gentler
• Budget matters: trays cost less than an in-office session, and refill gel makes future touch-ups inexpensive
• You want a long-term maintenance tool — the trays last for years

Trade-offs: results build over days rather than an hour, and consistency is on you.

What both options share

Because both are dentist-supervised, both start with something the drugstore can’t offer: an exam first. Whitening healthy teeth is safe and effective; whitening over cavities, gum disease or exposed roots is painful and unwise.
